Somebody had a great idea: what if the place where thousands of parents take their kids for soccer practice had features that made the parents glad to be there? Like good food, comfortable chairs, internet access, a yoga studio, maybe an in-house massage therapist? How would that make you feel about taking your kid to practice? You and your spouse would probably start to fight over who had to stay home. Or you might start going together.
That great idea is Evergreen Sportsplex, which is located just south of Leesburg, on Evergreen Mill Road. The facility has four FIFA-recommended Astroturf fields, which is a big deal when you consider that there are only 40 FIFA-recommended fields in the whole world.
“Chris Avery and Steve Battison became aware of the acute shortage of athletic fields in Loudoun County a few years ago through their children’s involvement with youth sports,” Jim Barnes reports in Loudouner Magazine. They decided to meet that need with the best fields anybody’s children — anybody period — will ever play on. Not a bad decision, considering the tens of thousands of soccer players who live within striking distance of Evergreen — and the lacrosse players and the football players. And since many of those players can’t yet drive themselves to practice, Avery and Battison designed a facility that chauffeurs will love as much as players do.
Evergreen partners with many of the county’s biggest names, including Inova Loudoun Hospital, which will be staffing a wellness center onsite, so you chat with a dietitian or an acupuncturist while your kids practice footwork. And not you can pick up your CSA share, too: Evergreen Sportsplex is a new GCF Community Group Site. Sign up here.
