Travel backwards across the geological timeline as we discuss different types of rocks and their formation. With this educational tour, students will learn about the geology of Virginia’s five different provinces, and then they’ll get their hands into the action like the prospectors of old, panning for treasure in our gem mining sluice. Your guide will discuss igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rock types, and older classes will discuss rock characteristics and ways to identify rock types. Each student will take home a bag of rough cut rocks and gems to identify back in the classroom, using the identification card included with the field trip. Tours are available Tuesdays and Fridays.
Don’t forget to exercise those gross motor skills in our 5-acre play area! Our 2800 square foot Pumpkin Jumpin’ Pillow, Double Barrel 80-foot slides, and rope swings will make your heart race! You can become a Maze Master by challenging each of our 4 mazes. See who can climb up the Rubber Ridge tractor tire mountain the fastest, or go for a romp in our Corn Bin.
